Tillakaratne Dilshan hopes to wrap up his Indian Premier League commitments and depart with the Sri Lankan team to England
The newly installed captain of the Sri Lankan team, Tillakaratne Dilshan has stated that he is keen on wrapping up his Indian Premier League (IPL) commitments in time for his national team’s tour to England, starting next month.
The Sri Lankans are scheduled to depart for England on 10 May, 2011 and Dilshan who is currently representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the cash rich IPL hopes that he would be released by his franchise in time.
The Lankans will be facing the English for what is set to be a gruelling tour including three tests and five One Day Internationals (ODIs).
Dilshan, while talking to Indian media stated that he was not yet aware of an exact date of departure since the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and the Sri Lankan Cricket Board have been negotiating on the matter.
Earlier this month the Sri Lankan sports minister had asked for the players to be released in time for the tour, giving 5 May, 2011 as the deadline.
The Sri Lanka Cricket secretary http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nishantha-Ranatunga-c79713 told media that Dilshan’s date of departure has not been confirmed yet as the two Boards have been deliberating on the issue.
Dilshan had expressed his desire to leave for England with the young team. He expressed his desire to build ties and communicate to them the importance of playing for the country, setting an example for the youngsters.
Without their skipper, the Lankan squad would arrive in England bereft of experience as two senior players and former captains Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene are only set to join the team for the second practice match on 19
May, 2011.
Dilshan in this situation wants to be with the team as early as he can, his manager informed the media.
"Dilshan had expressed the desire to travel with the nation team on May 10 considering some of the senior players are getting a bit late and this squad is a new squad and inexperienced. So he felt it was good to go with the team. But
that is only possible if http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Cricket is able to obtain a release from the BCCI," Roshan Abeyasinghe, Dilshan's manager stated.
