Tillakaratne Dilshan quits, Mahela Jayawardene appointed new Sri Lankan skipper – Cricket News Update

The decision of Dilshan was revealed to the media via a press release, which read, “Tillakaratne Dilshan sent his resignation from the captaincy of the national team to Sri Lanka Cricket a short while ago.”

Dilshan led Sri Lankan in 11 Test matches and 26 ODIs. His captaincy record is one he would like to forget. In the 11 Test matches Sri Lanka played under Dilshan, the team managed a solitary win while suffering defeats in five.
Dilshan was a prolific run making machine prior to his appointment as captain. Like many players before him, his own batting wilted with the added pressure on his shoulders. In the 11 Tests as captain, Dilshan only averaged 33.60 with the bat, compared to
his career average of 40.89 otherwise.

Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Sri Lankan Sports Minister, said, “Dilshan has sent his resignation letter so therefore the selectors met today and appointed Mahela Jayawardene as the captain and Angelo Mathews as the vice captain.”
