Tillakaratne Dilshan to join the Sri Lankan squad by May 11 – Cricket news
Sri Lanka’s newly appointed captain, Tillakaratne Dilshan, will leave the Indian Premier League edition 4 early and join the national squad in England on 11th
of May. The skipper will depart three days ahead of the first game of the tour against Middlesex.
The Lankan players who are playing in the IPL, were called up earlier by the Sri Lankan Cricket Board for the upcoming England tour. The decision was taken back after negotiations between the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) and SLC concluded
last week by letting the cricketers play more IPL games.
While talking and confirming the news to the media, the SLC secretary, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nishantha-Ranatunga-c79713, said, "He will be there on May 11.”
Dilshan will miss four league matches and knockout stage as well if they qualify, for his franchise, the Royals Challengers Bangalore’s. He is available to play two more homes games scheduled on 6th of May and 8th of May.
The 34-year-old player has been in poor form so far in this IPL. He has scored only 120 runs, playing seven innings at a strike-rate of 103.44. On the other hand, Dilshan had expressed strong desires to join his squad in England for his first task as Captain.
Dilshan wanted to spend more time in training camp with the rest of his team-mates and with new coach Stuart Law, who was appointed interim coach for the England tour after Trevor Bayliss retired. The new Sri Lankan coach appointment was made after the end
of the ICC World Cup 2011.
Five Sri Lankan players are still allowed to play more IPL games and will miss the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 game. The SLC has also called up Farveez Maharoof and wicket-keeper Kaushal Silva to join the squad. Nuwan Pradeep, the Lankan fast bowler, who has not played yet
for the Bangalore team in the IPL, is also expected to fly to England.
Earlier, the former captain of Sri Lanka, Kumar Sangakkara, was also called back to but with the consent of the BCCI he was authorised to play more IPL matches.
The furious Lankan slinging attacker, Lasith Malinga, who has signed off from Test cricket, was also called up earlier as he was not looking to leave IPL. He also got permission to play more IPL games.
The Sri Lankan team will set off for England tour, starting from 14 May. The Lankan Tigers will play three Tests, five One-Day international matches and a Twenty20 international match in England.
Both teams, Sri Lanka and England, from 1981 to 2008, have played 11 Test match series. England leads by winning five series to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758’s four series wins. However, two series have drawn. The upcoming series should be interesting to watch because the Sri
Lankan squad did well compared to the roller coaster performance by the English team.
In limited format of cricket, both teams have contact to each others in 47 matches out of which the Poms has won 23 times and Sri Lanka has won 22 matches however 2 matches have abundant.
However in T20 format of game, the teams have won 1 match by playing 2 games.
