http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 under pressure to retain captaincy – Cricket News Update
Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan might face the axe as skipper of the team following his Test and One Day International (ODI) series defeat against Pakistan in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE).
Dilshan has been unable to win any series since his appointment as captain after the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011.
Apart from losing the current series against Pakistan, he suffered defeats at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 as well, which might see him losing his current status in the Sri Lankan side.
However, the 35-year-old did not look much concerned about his captaincy and said, “I don't know. They appointed me until the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 series. Let's see how things go on.”
Commenting on his side’s last defeat against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, he added, “I cannot believe we lost seven wickets for 19 runs. I have no excuses for the failure of the batting unit.”
According to Dilshan, his side probably relaxed after being into a winning position. He claimed, “It looks like after a very good position everyone relaxed. As a batting unit everyone should have taken the responsibility, especially after getting a good
start. The batting unit has to take responsibility for the defeat.”
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 had been playing competitive cricket over the past few years and the team managed to reach the ICC World Cup finals in 2007 and 2011.
Although they ended up as runners up on both occasions, the consistency of the team was quite impressive.
However, things changed after the Mega Event this year, as the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 have failed to win any Test or ODI series since then.
One of the major reasons behind this seems to be the poor leadership of Dilshan, who has failed to inspire the team until now.
The veteran player has struggled with his own form as well and has been unable to score runs with consistency.
It might be a little unfair to judge the Sri Lankan Test side at the moment, considering their weak bowling line-up. However, the team has to click in the shorter version of the game, as they have the fire power to do well.
Unfortunately, things are not quite going Dilshan’s way and he might consider continuing as a senior member and quit captaincy himself.
