http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691’s future as Sri Lankan skipper hangs in the balance – Cricket News Update
Tillakaratne Dilshan, the Sri Lankan skipper, finds himself in hot waters after the Lankan side lost the One-Day International (ODI) series to Pakistan on Sunday, November 20, 2011. This was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758’s
third series defeat on a trot under the leadership of Dilshan.
The 35-year-old’s future as skipper of the Lankan team hangs in the balance, as the tour of South Africa closes in.
Dilshan was assigned captaincy after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 stepped down from the post on April 5, 2011, and he will be rendering these services till the Proteas tour ends.
The 35-year-old is aware of the situation and pressure; however, he stated that any decision will be taken after the South Africa tour.
Dilshan said, “I don't know what the selectors' views are. I was appointed captain until the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 series so I didn't think about being sacked. But after the South Africa tour, let's see how it
goes from there.”
Sri Lankan cricket has been on a downward spiral ever since Dilshan took charge of things. Prior to that, they reached the finals of 2011 World Cup, only to come out second best against the Indians.
Under the headship of Dilshan, Lankans have lost three consecutive series which include defeats to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and now Pakistan. The 35-year-old feels that there is not much wrong with his skills
as captain and pleads Lankan players to show more responsibility.
“As a captain I can't do anything to change the players' game. As a team unit we have to take responsibility. As captain I am disappointed to lose. We need to sit down and think where we can start again
before the South Africa series,” concludes Dilshan.
Sri Lanka could have levelled the ODI series with Pakistan on Sunday, if it wasn’t for the flamboyant all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482. The ostentatious cricketer singlehandedly took the game away from the
visitors. Afridi played a commendable innings of 75 that helped http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 reach 200 runs. He then restricted the Lankans to 174 by scaling five wickets for 35.
The Lankans will be looking to restore some pride when they lock horns against Pakistan in fifth ODI of the series to be played at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imtiaz-Sheikh-c64290 Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, November 23.
