Tillman's disciplined shackling of Calvin Johnson sends Bears to 37-13 victory over Lions – NFL News
Charles Tillman’s disciplined performance helped the Chicago Bears gained a significant victory on Sunday over the Detroit Lions as they crushed their National Football Conference North Division rivals 37-13 as they put in a well
disciplined and physical performance to keep the Lions out of their stride.
In all the great offensives such as Robert Hesner’s 82 yard punt return zig-zagging past defenders to score the touchdown or the four interceptions of Lions Quarter Back Matthew Stafford it was easy for the fans of the Bears to
miss out on the disciplined tracking and defensive acumen displayed by the Bears Corner Back Charles Tillman as he single handedly neutralized the threat from Lions wide reciever Calvin Johnson aptly named “Megatron”.
Bears Coach Lovie Smith was delighted with Tillman for carrying out his duties to near perfection telling reporters on Monday
Calvin Johnson has covered 885 yards this season scoring 11 touchdowns and is the best receiver on the Lions roster but Tillman effectively stopped Johnson breaking three passes and blocking his runs to keep the Lions in their
cage and throwing them off their stride.
Johnson who could not shake off Tillman throughout the encounter as he caught just seven of the nineteen passes that were sent his way and the Lions offense looked toothless limited to just two field goals in the second quarter
and a single touchdown in the final quarter after D.J Moore got ejected from the field for starting a brawl with Matthew Stafford. With the Lions Quarter Back performing poorly and his passing erratic the Lions could only look on in horror as their defence
crumbled in the face of the Bears onslaught.
“Charles Tillman, I could talk about him quite a bit,” Coach Lovie Smith said Monday. “Putting our game plan in, we let Charles know what he was doing for the game. He was going to guard their best receiver all day.”
Tillman also got a touchdown in the third period as he intercepted a Stafford pass and covered 44 yards to score the touchdown. Tillman is having a Career best season in 2011 making 59 tackles during this season.
“Every year the mission is to have a career year,” Tillman said. “Coach [Rod] Marinelli challenges everyone to have a career year and I think a lot of guys are having a career year right now.”
