Tilt/Trim Problems on 1987 Yamaha Outboard

Question

My 1987 70 hp Yamaha outboard is having problems with the tilt and trim. If you push the tilt button, the motor starts going up but its like it is losing power or something and then stops. If you give it a sec and push the button again, it will go up a little more then stop.

I have checked the battery, which has a full charge. If something is going out, could you tell me what I may need to change because I would hate to purchase an entire Tilt/Trim motor as they are very expensive.

first check tie hydraulic fluid level if full, will it go up normally if someone helps it.if so it's probably the pump.

you may have a plugged valve.dis-assamble the pump and clean everything
