English all-rounder Tim Bresnan has confirmed that he’s fit to play in the first Test starting next week against the visiting South Africans at the Oval.
“I could play tomorrow if necessary,” insisted Bresnan. “I could have played on Tuesday. It made sense to have the injection as a precautionary measure and give it an extra few days to settle down.”
The news will bring some relief to the English camp, which was already anxious due to several injury scares including Bresnan and Swann, along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 who is also suffering with a groin strain.
In December, Bresnan had to undergo a surgery to remove a bone spur from an elbow joint, which forced him to miss the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 player, who in 2001 became the youngest player to represent his county at the age of 16, made his international debut for England in 2006 in a T20I against Sri Lanka.
The 27-year-old, who has played in 14 Tests for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and has yet to taste defeat, has taken 55 wickets (at 26.09) and scored 362 runs (40.22). In ODIs, he has represented Poms in 63 matches, scoring 694 runs (at 21.03), while claiming 80 scalps (35.45).
The English management rested the all-rounder, along with Swann, for the fifth and final ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
Earlier, the duo along with, James Anderson and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 at Leeds last month.
