Tim Bresnan included in English squad for Lords Test against Pakistan
England played the last 3 test matches with an unchanged team. The mantra was that ‘why fix it if it’s not broken’. However, the defeat at the Oval against Pakistan has prompted the team management to make some changes. The first change comes in the shape of fast bowler Tim Bresnan who has been included in the 12 man squad for the fourth and final test against Pakistan. England leads the 4 match series 2-1with the Lords test starting on the 26th of August.
Geoff Miller, the national selector for England team claimed, that the result in the 3rd test was disappointing. He added that there are number of areas that can be worked on and first and most important one is England’s bowling department. Miller went on to say that the team management is expecting better performances from all departments of the team in the final test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
Alastair Cook’s place in the team was under the scanner due to his abysmal form in the series. However, he was the only star in the 2nd innings for England with an excellent century to his name. The hundred was probably the most crucial one of his career as it was clearly the last opportunity for him. With that performance, Cook has secured not only a place in the final test, but would also be inconsideration for the Ashes squad.
Miller said that despite the loss at the Oval, there are number of positives to take from the defeat. He highlighted the century by Cook as the first. Miller claimed that the left hander has always had talent and Cook is the one for the future. Miller said that when Cook first came on to the scene from the Under-19 team, many former players had a belief that Cook could be the next English captain who could open the innings for the next decade. He went on to say that he is very pleased that Cook has regained his form and hopes that it would help him in getting good scores at Lords. Miller went on to say that the manner in which England fought on the final day of the test was commendable. He said that despite a very modest total, England was committed, hungry and determined to win.
Geoff Miller said that England has had the problem of having an unpredictable top order where they look good with 600 runs on the board in one test and they follow it up with less than a 100. He added that they needed to rectify this fault if they are to have any chance of retaining the Ashes later this year.
Miller said that he has no doubts that the loss at Oval would motivate the team to hit back hard, and would finish the series on a high and win the series 3-1.
Tim Bresnan, the latest inclusion in the 12-man squad for the 4th test, was playing for Yorkshire and took 1-58. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 earlier this season. Despite the inclusion of Bresnan in the squad, there is not much chance of him making an appearance in the first 11. James Anderson has been the highest wicket-taker in the series for England so he is definitely going to play. Stuart Broad has been consistent with the ball, and has shown enough ability with the bat as well to assure himself a place in the starting eleven. Steven Finn is the only bowler who can make way for Bresnan.
