Tim Bresnan targets World Cup berth
England’s Ashes hero, Tim Bresnan has set his target on the 2011 World Cup berth, saying that his focus is on getting fit for the event that gets underway from 19 February in the sub-continent.
“I am working on my rehabilitation now and there is no reason why I won’t be fit to play in the first game”, Bresnan stated on Saturday.
Bresnan added that he feels “ready” to play and is up for the challenge of getting fit for England’s first game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
The 25-year-old suffered from a calf strain in the second One Day match against Australia at Hobart and he needed a runner when he was at the crease. He was ruled out of the remainder of the seven-match series and was flown back home.
His injury adds to the injury worries of England with Graeme Swann also battling with back and knee injuries. The weakness shown in the bowling department especially has cost Andrew Strauss and his side a lot with England currently reeling 3-1 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746
ahead of the World Cup.
England’s coach, Andy Flower, had earlier expressed the need of using Bresnan and Stuart Broad in the crucial World Cup matches. Broad is yet to perform after he was ruled out of the Ashes 2010-11 due to an abdominal strain.
However, Bresnan stated that England can win the One Day series if they build on the momentum from their 21-run win at Adelaide in the fourth ODI.
“After the win in Adelaide, I really think that we can go on and win the series”, he replied.
Bresnan is now described as the man, who won the Ashes after taking two wickets for 25 in Australia’s first innings in the Boxing Test match at Melbourne. But he cleaned up the top-order in the second innings after claiming 4 wickets off 50 balls. He also
took the final wicket of Ben Hilfenhaus and stamped England’s win by an innings and 157 runs as they retained the Ashes.
He conceded that the team tried to stay away from the press after the Ashes win to stay grounded for the challenges ahead.
“But, having come home, the reaction has just been unbelievable”, Bresnan added.
The fiery all-rounder said that he is looking forward to playing on the sub-continent’s spin-friendly decks, especially in Bangladesh, that holds special affiliation to his cricket career.
The right-handed batsman made his mark in Test cricket when he scored his maiden half-century in England’s tour of Bangladesh in early 2010. He smashed an impressive 91 in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747’s trying conditions. He showed immense confidence on the spin-friendly
