Tim Cahill: Everton can build on Manchester United draw
Everton midfielder Tim Cahill on Monday revealed his belief that his club can use their English Premier League draw with Manchester United as a springboard in their bid for European qualification this season.
David Moyes’ men launched a sensational comeback from 3-1 down to claim a point with two goals deep into injury-time, one of which Cahill scored.
With the Toffees sitting at 19th place in the table after picking up just two points from their four league games so far this season, Cahill believes that the confidence boost from the draw with the EPL giants could help Everton in their bid to pick up three points against Newcastle United this weekend.
'Need to push on'
The Liverpool Daily Star quoted the 30-year-old Australian as saying that: “I could see some of our fans leaving at 3-1 and I was thinking that we don’t want to let these people down. In that situation you try to find anything. We found it against United and we need to push on now.
“The only thing missing in the previous three games was the goals, but our belief has not been effected. It would have been easy to lose belief at 3-1 but we kept going. Now we need to eradicate the mistakes, we have been creating our own problems. It’s only the start of the season and we have a lot to do. Hopefully this can be a launch pad for the season."
So far this season, Everton have suffered a 1-0 defeat on the opening day away to Blackburn Rovers, earned a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, fallen 1-0 at the hands of Aston Villa and earned a creditable point against United.
Their next three games will see them take on Newcastle, Fulham and Birmingham City, before they host Liverpool in the Merseyside derby and then travel to face Tottenham Hotspur.
