Tim Cahill confirms commitment to Australia and Everton
Australian international Tim Cahill has said his commitments to the national team and Everton, where he has played his club football since 2004, are of equal importance.
Holger Osieck's Australia will face Paraguay in a friendly game on Saturday, before entering the AFC Asian Cup in January, where one spot in the FIFA Confederations Cup is up for grabs.
Speaking ahead of the friendly, Cahill insisted that his knee problems will not stop him from committing fully to the Australian team.
"It's hard and it's up to the manager and obviously we have good personnel who can hopefully do a great job against Paraguay, but if everything goes well this week then I have every possible chance [of playing a part in the game]," the 30-year-old said at
a press conference.
Unfaltering commitment to Everton
David Moyes' Everton have made a disappointing start to the Premier League, earning only six points in seven games. After the international break, the club have a critical fixture against Liverpool, a Merseyside derby in which the stakes will be higher than
usual.
Cahill said that he was aware that his loyalty to the national team cannot compromise his desire to perform for Everton, who will be keen to receive the striker in good physical condition next week.
"This is a friendly and I'm back here to show my commitment to the team and the players. There's so many players here who want to start and everyone's fighting for a spot, but I've got a massive derby to go back to as well. I wanted to basically make sure
that my country's just the biggest priority and Everton is as well."
After the derby aganst Liverpool, Everton travel to face Tottenham before receiveing Stoke City at Goodison Park.
