Tim Collins shines as Kansas City Royals lose to Los Angeles Angels 7-9 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals lost to the Los Angeles Angels 7-9 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Friday, September 14 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Starting pitcher Bruce Chen had a forgettable time on the mound as he gave up seven hits and five runs in just over six innings. Relief pitcher Tim Collins took the loss after he gave up three hits and two runs that included a home-run.
Billy Butler and Mike Moustakas hit back-to-back home-runs in the second inning to give Royals a dream start. Jeff Francoeur and Alcides Escobar also made useful contributions with the bat but Angels were in no mood to give up on Friday.
"He's got power from both sides," Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia said of Kendrys Morales. "He's strong. There's no doubt he can drive the ball from the right side. This year it's really clear that any opposing manager wants to get him on the right side. It's
the right move to make and fortunately he came through."
"I think I made a rookie mistake and gave Morales exactly what he was looking for," Tim Collins said. "After that, I made some good pitches and they hit them. I just tried to do too much. He was looking fastball in that situation."
Royals had a successful series against the Minnesota Twins and they were looking to continue their excellent form against the Angels but that did not turn out to be the case. Angels showed great composure and temperament to outclass their opponents in finer
details of the game.
Angels are still pretty much in the playoff race. If they can bring some consistency in their results, they can surely grab the American League Wild Card spot. It will be interesting to see if they can sweep the Royals in their crucial American League West
road series.
Royals, on the other hand, will be looking to turn the tables on their opponents in Game 2. Manager Ned Yost will be expecting his men to put up a solid fight to keep the series alive.
