Tim Cottam claims Boys 100m breast-stroke gold title – Australian State Teams Age SC Championships
Tim Cottam of New South Wales (NSW) claimed gold medal of 100m breast-stroke in the Boys 16-17 years old class, on day three of 2011 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships. The session concluded on September 19, at the Australian Institute
of Sport (AIS), Canberra.
The 17-year-old Cottam displayed an eye-catching effort in the breast-stroke discipline, while competing in the senior category of age group swimmers. He occupied gold medal of the event by submitting a wonderful time of 1 minute and 02.78 seconds. With
his commendable effort, he remained only 0.88 seconds slower than the age group mark of 1 minute and 01.90 seconds, set by Buster Sykes of QLD during 2010.
Nonetheless, the gold medallist was trailed by Tommy Sucipto of Western Australia (WA), how remained only 0.34 seconds away from him and stepped on the podium for silver medal by ending his swim in a time of 1 minute and 03.12 seconds. Sucipto was trailed
by Jake Packard of Queensland (QLD), who was only 0.49 seconds slower than him and secured the podium for bronze medal by reporting in a time of 1 minute and 03.61 seconds.
The fourth spot of the race was obtained by Jesse King of NSW, as he was 0.04 seconds slower than Packard and hit the finishing wall with a timing of 1 minute and 03.65 seconds. King was followed by QLD’s Jared Gilliland, who appeared on the finishing wall
with a fifth fastest time of 1 minute and 04.54 seconds.
Moments later, relay team A of QLD acquired gold medal of Mixed 4*100m freestyle relay, where they clocked a time of 3 minutes and 12.38 seconds. The winning squad included Leanne Wright, Jayke Rees, Jenna Liimatainen and Brandon Grochala.
They were followed by squad A of NSW, which remained only 2.18 seconds slower and reached the podium for silver medal, by producing a time of 3 minutes and 14.56 seconds. The podium was completed by team A of VIC, who remained 2.29 seconds behind their former
finishers and touched the wall in 3 minutes and 16.85 seconds.
The fourth spot of the swim was secured by Squad B of QLD, which stayed nearly two seconds behind their preceding team and completed their race with an effort of 3 minutes and 18.62 seconds. Similarly, B team of NSW claimed fifth position of the relay event,
as they posted a time of 3 minutes and 19.49 seconds.
Furthermore, the session completed after the conclusion of all scheduled swimming events, while these podium finishers were called upon the victory stand for their notable efforts after the session.
