Tim Duncan, Peja Stojakovic: Players who may never play if next NBA season gets cancelled (Part 3)
Jermaine O'Neal
Boston Celtics 33 year old forward-centre Jermaine O’Neal had announced earlier that 2011-12 season will be his last season in the National Basketball Association. However, the way labour talks have gone so far it seems that NBA
may not have a next season.
This means that the six time NBA All-Star wouldn’t be coming back to the court, as his body wouldn’t be in the best of shape to bear the abuse of another season. The 6 ft 11 has won several honours after he was drafted by the Portland
Trail Blazers as 17th overall back in 1996. It’s been a long journey for Jermaine which might come to an abrupt end.
Peja Stojakovic
The 34 years old Peja Stojakovic has suffered a severe drop in his stats and has missed out on several games in the last three seasons. The veteran player believed last season that he has enough gas for at least another season
in the NBA. However, that statement came when the Dallas Mavericks hadn’t won a championship and lockout wasn’t imposed on the players.
Since then a lot has changed and now the hopes of having a next NBA season are diminishing with every passing day. The long delay and the reduced role, even on the bench, may force Stojakovic to call it a day.
Marcus Camby
The 37 years old Marcus Camby, who had joined the Portland Trail Blazers in 2009-10 season, declared earlier that he would start considering about retirement if his team moved him. This statement portrays on what lines the forward-centre
is thinking. The Trail Blazers have been rumoured to move the veteran player, as he failed to put up impressive numbers in the previous season.
The trade vibe if true will materialize, when the NBA gets back to business and with that we might see the last of Camby.
Tim Duncan
Tim Duncan is 34 and given his exploits last season, it is only fait to say that he is a shadow of the past. Duncan failed to dominate last season in a way he used to do and after the first round loss to the Memphis Grizzlies in
the playoffs last year, there have difference in opinions at the franchise.
Tony Parker, the one cog of the big three, also including Duncan and Manu Ginobili, believes that with the trio getting old, the time has passed for the Spurs to win a championship. Although he later retracted from his statement,
he does have a point and a missed season might just accelerate the retirement of Duncan.
