Tim Duncan agrees to three year deal with the San Antonio Spurs – NBA News
Legendary power forward Tim Duncan has agreed to a three year contract that will see him return to the San Antonio Spurs next season.
Duncan labelled himself 'a Spur for life' back in March and has lived true to his word with the signing. Drafted in 1997 as the number 1 pick, Duncan has since played only for the Spurs throughout his 15 year career in the NBA.Duncan
has helped the Spurs win four NBA championships since his arrival in the club.
Yahoo Sports has reported that Duncan will get $36 million over the course of the three years in what is a fully guaranteed contract. Duncan will hence be making more or less the same as Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett, who
also signed a new contract with the Celtics this offseason.
Timmy D averaged 15.4 points and 9 rebounds this season for the Spurs. Although Tony Parker became the leader of the Spurs in the regular season, Duncan proved that he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level when
he outshined the rest of the Spurs roster in the playoffs. The Spurs eventually lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.
The Spurs have also agreed on contracts with two key role players from last season in Danny Green and Boris Diaw.
Green, who is a restricted free agent, has been offered a three year $11.3 million contract, a source familiar with the negotiations has told ESPNNewYork.com’s Ian Begley. He started 38 games for the Spurs last season and averaged
9.1 points per game, going 43 percent from distance.
Boris Diaw played only 20 games with the Spurs last season after he was traded by the Charlotte Bobcats in March. He averaged 4.7 points and 4.2 rebounds and the Spurs have offered him a two year $9 million contract.
The Spurs have not made any big moves this offseason as they are happy with the line-up that helped them record a 20 game winning streak last season, which stretched from the regular season right into the Western Conference Finals
(till the first two games of the series).
The lineup showed last season that it has got what it takes to be a champion calibre team, and come next season, under Gregg Popovich, the Spurs are going to be formidable once again.
