Veteran bigs Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett have a no-trade clause in their new contracts
We have seen examples of players bargaining with their teams in order to land a more lucrative deal with the money being a cause of huge concern. But none of that matters much to Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan as they both signed
new three year deals with the Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs respectively. Both of these icons took huge pay cuts in order to allow their teams to have more financial flexibility.
However, the affection does not go just one way as both players were given no trade clauses in their new deals thus ensuring their stay till the end of their careers. It was not that they were going anywhere else as they are the
face of their respective franchises but having their future secured does bring assurance and a great deal of satisfaction, especially at this stage of their careers.
Duncan and Garnett are only the third and fourth players to have this type of a contract, the earlier two being Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and Dirk Nowitzki of Dallas Mavericks.
Grant Hill contemplates on Steve Nash’s trade to Los Angeles Lakers
Phoenix Suns lost two of their veterans to the Hollywood region during the summer. While Grant Hill went to the Los Angeles Clippers, Steve Nash made his way to long time rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Lakers and the Suns have a well documented rivalry and Nash has been a part of most of these battles. He helped Phoenix defeat the LA based team twice in the playoffs in the mid of last decade. It still remains to be seen how
the fan returns when Nash make a trip to the Desert City, but according to Hill, it might not be very good;
“That’s like transferring from Duke and going to Carolina.” Drawing an analogy he said.
It’s only natural for the Suns fans to react when Nash plays in purple and gold infront of them, but it might not exactly be of the same magnitude to what Dwight Howard is expected to face upon his return to Orlando.
