The Chicago native and five-time NBA All-star advises Derrick Rose not to rush back onto the court after his injury rehab...
Derrick Rose is currently recovering from a torn ACL injury he suffered back in the playoffs and is not expected to be back at least somewhere in the middle of next season. The timing of the injury was heart breaking for Rose and the Chicago Bulls as he had only returned back from a groin injury, one of the three injuries he suffered last regular season.
To go down injured like that in his first game back was a cause for serious concern and practically finished the chances of Bulls making a strong run in the post season. Philadelphia 76ers took full advantage of Chicago’s loss, thumping them in six games to set up a clash with the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
All through the off season, there have been vibes that Rose is recovering fast and may join the team ahead of schedule. Rose himself seems very anxious to return back on the court, but there is one former Chicago native who has warned the point guard against it. Tim Hardaway in a recent interview to ESPN Chicago provided insight on what Rose must be going through. Hardaway, who is a five-time All-star, suffered a similar injury to that of Rose in 1993 which caused him to miss the whole season.
Even though he came back as a smarter player, his athleticism was not quite the same. According to Hardaway, Rose should take his time, and also pointed out that the off time will help the former MVP improve his game;
“I’d just rather have him take his time, so he can be 100 percent, because he’s like me, running and jumping,” Hardaway said. “His jumpshot is going to come back a lot better than what it was,” said Hardaway, “I’ll tell you that. His jumpers and his free throw percentage is going to be up. I’m telling you. That’s all you can do. You can’t do anything else, but shoot around and just shoot free throws.”
