Tim Hardaway tells Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose that he will be back to his best – NBA Update
Former NBA star Tim Hardaway has revealed that he approached Derrick Rose after the latter’s injury and assured him that he can make a full recovery. The Chicago Bulls star tore his anterior cruciate ligament in game-1 of the first round playoffs series
against Philadelphia 76ers.
The Bulls subsequently went on to lose the series despite being the first seed and Rose underwent surgery which is expected to keep him out o the game for 8 – 12 months.
Tim Hardaway, who is a former Miami Heat player and was a standout point guard during his time in the NBA, making the All Star team on many occasions, contacted Rose after his horrific injury. The former point guard assured Derrick that he can come back
from the injury strong, because he did so himself.
Hardaway suffered the same injury in his playing days but was able to make a recovery and continue his career. That’s why he knew instantly that Rose had suffered a serious blow when he went down against the Sixers.
‘‘I saw the game when he did it, and I knew exactly what it was,’’ said Hardaway. ‘‘I knew it was his [anterior cruciate ligament]. I don’t like to see guys get hurt anyway, but when it’s an ACL, I know how much it hurts. It’s a serious injury. It’s a long
road back.’’
Tim was a similar player to Rose back in the day. He was a point guard as well, who relied on his speed and explosiveness to make a name in the NBA. He explained how the biggest challenge for him was, and for Rose likely will be, getting over a mental hurdle
and believing in yourself.
‘‘My biggest thing was getting my head and knee on the same page, so I could do the same things I did before the injury — doing the crossover, exploding to the basket, not being afraid to lay the ball up over a big guy,’’ he said. ‘‘I had to get to a point
where I didn’t fear leaping off my left leg. That was the biggest challenge I had to overcome.’’
