Tim Hart romp to big win at Federal Amateur Open at Canberra
After a long and frustrating start to his golf career, Tim Hart finally won the 2011 Federal Amateur Open Championship at The Federal Golf Club in Canberra. Hart displayed excellent control throughout the final round finishing off 69-70-74-68 to a 7-under-par,
being the only golfer on the field who scored under par. Runner up, Kylie Grant, finished up with a score of 74-73-68-73 at even par, which was his best performance in any main amateur event.
Hart has previously missed winning several main amateur events by narrow margins and this maiden win is being considered the fruits of his hard work and patience. Hart was a runners up in the 2009 Mandurah Easter Amateur, 2009 Victorian Amateur, 2010 Port
Phillip Amateur, 2009 Federal Amateur, the 2008 NSW Amateur Championship, and the 2010 Queensland Amateur. It was the resilience and persistence of the young player that yielded in a much awaited victory. “I say the win represents more of a relief than anything
else,” said Hart.
The victory is bound to play a pivotal role in Hart's progress as an established golfer as it not only has broken the ice of his consecutive losses but will also strengthen his belief in himself.
Much of the credit, however, goes to the lessons he learned while playing with one of Australia’s greatest golfers, Craig Parry. Hart was paired with Parry in last week’s Queensland PGA Championship where Parry hammered a 64 around the City Golf Club in
Toowoomba. Hart finished for a decent tie for 36th but the experience of playing with Parry turned out to be priceless. Hart also spoke of the positive change in his approach after playing with the veteran golfer.
“I came into this event in Canberra with a different approach,” said Hart “I’d seen Craig Parry shoot a 64 the week earlier and it was just amazing to watch how players like that put together a round. That spurred me on and showed me just how much difference
there is in the game and what you have to aim for to win events.” Hart also mentioned that after his losses in major tournaments he went over to modify his pre-shot routine, something that has helped to keep his score lower. For the golfer it became a matter
of confidence more than anything else. He later stated himself that the field was not as strong as in the past but he was able to shoot a decent score and keep high scores off his card.
Hart hails from Queensland Australia and is currently ranked 46th on the World Amateur rankings. The consecutive setbacks have done a lot to make him a more weathered golfer. This win could not have come at a better time for Hart as the season
is fast approaching the Riversdale cup on Friday and right ahead is the Australian Amateur in Melbourne.
