Tim Henman believes Roger Federer can win if it rains during the Wimbledon – Tennis News
Great Britain’s former top player, Tim Henman, has stated that some showers during the two week long Wimbledon Championships can help the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, to win his record equalling seventh title at the All England
Club.
Henman thinks that centre court’s roof would have to be closed if it rains, which will definitely help Federer, as he is currently the best indoor court player in the world.
In a recent interview, the Brit said, “If the Centre Court roof comes over you will be talking about the world’s first indoor grand slam.”
Federer has already won six titles at the All England Club and he is only one short of Pete Sampras’ record of seven crowns. The Swiss Maestro ruled the SW19 from 2003-05 and then again in 2009.
The 16-time Grand Slam winner proved his superiority on the indoor courts at the end of last year by winning two back to back titles at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris and Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London. The Swiss legend
has won a record six titles at the year ending championships, which is always played at indoor courts.
Henman also said that, “If he wins another grand slam – and I believe he will – then I would expect him to do it at Wimbledon or the US Open.”
Federer performs exceptionally well at the faster courts, as he has also captured five and four titles at the hard courts of US and Australian Open respectively.
He added, “The surface in New York is actually faster, but the nature of the movement on a grass court means it is a difficult place to defend. Federer doesn’t really do much defending because his style is so aggressive. We saw
him lose to Novak Djokovic in Paris in very unhelpful, windy conditions, which suited Djokovic’s attritional approach. “
Henman went on to say that one has to play with more margins for error when the weather is windy, one cannot aim near to the lines of the court. The Brit also stated that he would like to see Federer facing Djokovic under the roof
at the Wimbledon Championships, as it can give a different result.
