Tim Herron secures his card for the 2013 PGA Tour season
Tim Herron finished tied for the ninth position at the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, to secure his card for the 2013 PGA Tour season.
Playing on the Magnolia Golf Course, Herron got off to a solid start by finishing the front-nine in 33 shots.
He then added another two shots on the 10th and the 14th hole to move into the share of the fourth spot on the leaderboard.
However, he failed to keep the momentum going and faltered on the 17th hole for a double bogey.
“(Hole number) 17 was playing hard. I needed to suck it up and hit it down the left and try to hit a cut and I came over and hooked it in the water. And then left the putt on the last hole,” he explained.
He then parred the final hole of the day to finish the tournament with an 11-under par overall score.
At the end of the tournament, he found himself securing a top-10 finish, which moved him into the top-125 in the PGA Tour rankings.
According to the PGA Tour’s policy, the top-125 players, at the end of the season, will be allowed to retain their cards for the upcoming year.
“There's a lot of money to be made out here, so I'm just looking at it as another opportunity, another year to make a few million dollars and maybe a win,” he said.
Talking to the PGA Tour’s official website, he also stated that he tried his best to finish the round with a birdie on the 18th hole.
He revealed that he was worried about losing his PGA Tour card for the next season. Therefore, he desperately wanted to strengthen his position on the leaderboard.
“Hit a good drive on 18, which I did, and try to give myself a good birdie putt. I gave myself a downhill, into the wind. And I hit a really good putt,” he said.
Despite making a strong effort on the 18th hole, he had to settle for a par, as the ball slid past the cup after he tried for a birdie.
Charlie Beljan, in the meantime, recorded the first PGA Tour victory of his career by winning the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic.
With this victory, he became the fourth rookie this season to join the winning circle on the PGA Tour.
