Tim Hudson’s pitching helps Atlanta Braves defeat New York Mets 4-1 – MLB Update
Atlanta Braves’ starter, Tim Hudson had a notable day with the ball as he surrendered just three hits and one earned run with an ERA of 3.22 in the Braves’ 4-1 victory over the New York Mets at Citi Field, New York on August 5.
Mets got off to a decent start as they posted their initial run during the first inning and took a 1-0 lead. David Wright hit a double-run shot towards deep centre-field and Daniel Murphy scored a single run for the Mets. In the second inning, the batters
only got out without taking any run for their respective teams.
During the third inning, the Braves added their first two runs to go-ahead 2-1. Jose Constanza tripled towards deep right-centre while Alex Gonzalez contributed the first run. The second run for the Braves was taken by Constanza when Michael Bourn hit a
sacrifice fly to left-field. Then, the pitchers were on top from the fourth to seventh inning of the game as they tossed up some tricky throws to stop the batters from taking runs.
In the fifth inning, the batters got out cheaply as at third base, Gonzalez fouled out and Hudson grounded out while Constanza was grounded out to second base without adding runs. Mets’ batters missed some scoring chances at the bottom of the seventh inning
when Willie Harris had a walk while at short-stop position, Josh Thole grounded out and at right-field Lucas Duda flied out.
Hudson gave up just one run with two walks in his seven inning pitches and had two strike-outs on his 99 pitches. Hudson said, “They run balls down. It's nice. It's normal Braves baseball. ... It's a fun style of baseball and it's nice to have it on your
side for a change.”
Speaking to reporters, Constanza said, “A lot of teams in Triple-A, they play his music when I come to bat.”
At the top of the eighth inning, the Braves raised their lead 4-1 by blasting two quick runs. Martin Prado and Freddie Freeman both put two collective runs during the eighth inning when Dan Uggla singled off left-field. The pitchers were dominant in the
ninth inning and struck-out the batters in spite of giving runs.
However, the Braves led off the three-game series 1-0 after having a comfortable win.
