Tim Lincecum leads San Francisco Giants to 6-1 victory over Seattle Mariners – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants grabbed a splendid victory over Seattle Mariners 6-1 in their eleventh game of Cactus League on Sunday, March 6 at Scottsdale Stadium.
The win was designed by starting pitcher Tim Lincecum who crushed the opponent’s line-up with his unpredicable pitches.
Lincecum was making his third start of spring after hurling three perfect innings with two strike-outs in his recent outing against Chicago White Sox. Lincecum was at his best when he struck-out seven allowing just three hits without any home-run.
Tim, who threw nearly 60 pitches was about to make history when he reached a rare four-strike-out in the fourth inning. "Rhythm kind of went in and out between innings, other than that, everything felt fine," Lincecum said. "It's good to get my pitch count
up, continue to add on to it and get my body in shape for the rest of the season."
Lincecum was helped by spring training debutant Brian Wilson. Despite coming at fifth place, he forced two of the Mariners’ players to leave the ground, striking them out. The pitches were so wild that he did not allow the batters to hit.
"I treated it like a game situation, which is how I treat every game I pitch," Wilson said. "There's always room for improvement, whether it be physical or mental."
Miguel Tejada won a game for his team hitting two-run triple, winning eight games in the Majors for this season. The Mariners were not lucky to make their sixth win against the Giants. The Mariners have won five of last seven spring games against the Giants.
Mariners’ starting pitcher Nate Robertson was completely outclassed by Giants’ batters as he was unable strike more than one out. He was playing for his second CL game. However, the gap was filled by right-hand pitcher Blake Beaven who struck-out three batters
while allowing three hits in two innings. Right-hand pitcher Chaz Roe performed up to the mark striking-out two in just an inning.
In the previous game against Cleveland Indians, Mariners were splendid as they snapped their three-game losing streak with 7-2 wins. Left-hand Erik Bedard picked up the win, striking-out four in two hitless innings.
Mariners have some relief as last year’s American league Cy Young Award winner Felix Hernandez will make his debut Monday in a start against the Oakland Athletics at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
Giants and Mariners will meet again on Tuesday at Seattle. At this time the Giants have scheduled Jason as starting pitcher against the Mariners right-hander Ryan Vogelsong.
It will be interesting to see how the Giants carry their momentum into their match-up against the Mariners.
