Tim Lincecum on fire as San Francisco Giants defeat Colorado Rockies 8-1 – Part 1
Tim Lincecum put in a brilliant pitching performance as the San Francisco Giants beat Colorado Rockies 8-1 at Coors Field, Denver on Monday, April 18.
Lincecum’s last performance on the field may not have been stellar, given that he allowed more than a couple of hits and had to be called back. That was surely a one-time thing as the best pitcher in the National League unleashed his entire pitching prowess
onto the field in the game against Colorado.
The two times Cy Young winner was not worried about his previous performance, or the expectations everyone had of him as he pitched seven no-hitter innings.
"He's always good, but tonight was some of his best stuff that I've seen," Troy Tulowitzki said. "And then he was getting up there 95 [mph] after CarGo got that hit. It seemed like he amped it up a little bit. He's special."
Apparently all you need to bury the best team in the National League is Lincecum. He reminded the Rockies that they might be the best team but the Giants are still the reigning World Series Champions.
The rivalry between the teams sprouted sometime over two years ago. Both teams are talented in the own ways and for a baseball fan, it has been very exciting to see them battle it out. The plus point is that unlike the Giants’ rivalry with the Los Angeles
Dodgers, it remains civil and no innocent fan has been physically harmed.
Their rivalry took a new turn in September last year as the Giants questioned the protocol at the Coors Field of how baseballs were removed from the humidor. Obviously, this is a question of integrity so the Rockies remain upset over the assumptions.
"We are sensitive to what happened," manager for Colorado Jim Tracy said. "But we have to focus on the process, not the opponent."
The Rockies have always managed to hit on the field, but not against Lincecum. In seven and two third innings he allowed only one run through three hits and struck-out ten in the process, as he walked just two. This is proof why the Giants are top of the
class in National League West. Even though the Rockies are talented, better teams have fallen at the hands of Lincecum.
It seemed like in the first inning the Rockies were purposely giving the Giants false hope by hitting the balls outside the humidor. The Giants replied by putting up five runs as they went against Esmil Rogers in the first inning. This helped San Francisco
considerably towards their 8-1 victory against Colorado.
Lincecum made sure that the Giants remained the leaders as he did not let the Rockies hit until the seventh inning.
