Tim Lincecum on fire as San Francisco Giants defeat Colorado Rockies 8-1 – Part 2

In the highly anticipated match between the San Francisco Giants and the Colorado Rockies the Giants were victorious by a landslide. Tim Lincecum, pitcher par excellence made sure no one got a run in against him until the seventh inning. That coupled with
the Giants home-runs galore helped them defeat the best team in the National League, the Rockies.
Jonathan Herrera was the first one to make the ball reach the outfield against Lincecum. In the seventh inning, Herrera hit a fly towards deep right-field. Sadly for the Rockies, the ball fell right into Schierholtz’s glove. Carlos Gonzalez came up next
and had the honour of having the first hit of the night off Lincecum as he scored on Todd Helton’s double. Even though he gave up a hit Lincecum still managed to finish off with ten strike-outs and only three hits in the duration of almost seven and a half
innings.
On the other side, Esmil Rogers the starting pitcher for Colorado felt very generous as he gave up back-to-back home-runs to Pat Burell and Nate Schierholtz in the first inning. Burell had a three run shot whereas Schierholtz blasted a home-run. In the second
inning, Freddy Sanchez managed to score and Aubrey Huff barely missed a homer of his own.
Clay Mortensen pitched six scoreless innings and allowed only two hits as he walked two and struck-out only one. However, his ground-out to fly-out ratio 11-to-1 was impressive. He obviously relieved the Rockies for a limited time and breathed some life
into their bull-pen. There is a chance though that he will be optioned out along with Ian Stewart in exchange for another long reliever incase the Rockies decide to do that.
"I will pitch on (no days') rest if they want me to," Mortensen said.
After their terrible defeat, the Rockies can at least hope for better next time around as their ace Ubaldo Jimenez returns from the Disabled List where he missed two starts due to a cut to his right thumb. "We just need Ubaldo to be himself," Gonzalez said.
"He's our ace. We have complete confidence in him."
The Rockies should take hope in the fact that first off, it was only one game. They still have time to defend their title of being the best team around. Secondly, the fact that one of their players actually managed to score against Lincecum is something
to be proud of.
Tim was on fire and pitched probably the best since he started off and if someone got a run out of him, then that is something to be proud of. Despite their staggering loss, the Rockies remain the best team in Major League Baseball at the moment.
