Tim Lincecum shines as San Francisco Giants defeat San Diego Padres 8-4 – Part 2
The San Francisco Giants’ offence came alive as they managed to beat the San Diego Padres 8-4 on Wednesday, April 6 at Petco Park in San Diego.
Although Tim Lincecum was the dominant player with his pitching excellence, the Giants’ offence contributed to the win over the Padres.
Giants’ Buster Posey managed to hit a brilliant two-run homer off Padres’ Tim Stauffer and also had a decent two-run single. Aubrey Huff also had a good day on the offence as he hit a pair of run-scoring doubles and a RBI single.
Tim Stauffer struggled to contain the mighty Giants’ offence as he allowed four runs and walked two. With his disappointing performance Stauffer said, "I just didn't feel real sharp overall, I battled a bit. But the first inning, getting down like that against
a good pitcher like Lincecum, is a little bit of an uphill battle for us. Overall, not what I was looking to do."
Lincecum wasn’t quite as impressive as the season opener on Thursday at Los Angeles where he allowed an unearned run. The Padres manager certainly felt the change in his performance saying, "You could tell he was on from the outset, he had all his weapons
today." Hudson who was struck out once by Lincecum agreed, saying "When he's like that, he's tough, he had stuff hopping. It just makes it awfully tough to hit when he's on that that with all his pitches."
The Giants climbed all over the Padres during the game. San Diego struggled a great deal against the tremendous pitching performance by Tim Lincecum. The Padres’ batting line-up was unable to counter against the variation in Lincecum’s pitching.
San Francisco showed their dominance during the game as they managed to silence the San Diego Padres at their home ground. The Giants put on a brilliant display on both the offence and defence. As the season wears on, San Francisco is seemingly getting stronger
and more dominant.
With a tremendous performance by Tim Lincecum and the rest of the Giants, it seem that the team are sending a clear signal to their opponents that they are still defending Champions and have what it takes to win games. Most teams will be taking notice of
the Giants and will be keeping a keen eye on their performance as the season moves on.
It will be interesting to see how the Giants manage to carry their winning momentum into their next match-up of the season. The Padres will be looking to improve their performance and increase their efforts to become more competitive against some of the
top tier teams in the MLB if they are to have any chance of making it to the post-season.
