Tim Lincecum sparks as San Francisco Giants defeat San Diego Padres 3-1 - MLB Update
San Francisco Giants’ starting pitcher, Tim Lincecum had a notable day with the ball as he pitched seven innings and struck-out six batters with an ERA of 2.59 in the Giants’ 3-1 victory against the San Diego Padres at AT&T Park, San Francisco on September
14.
In the first inning, both sides contributed one run to their respective score-card to tie the game 1-1. Cameron Maybin scored the first run for Padres when Jesus Guzman hit a double-run shot to right-field. On the other hand, Carlos Beltran struck a solo
homer (327 feet) towards right-field to score a tie run for the Giants.
The pitchers had a superb day as they limited the runs from the second to fifth inning. Maybin walked and Will Venable stole third base during the third inning but Mat Latos struck-out and Guzman ground out without adding any run for the Padres. Similarly,
at the bottom of the fourth inning, Aubrey Huff popped out to short-stop position, Brandon Belt struck-out looking and Hector Sanchez ground out to second base without scoring runs.
During the fifth inning, Andy Parrino walked but got out to second base when Latos hit a drive into a double play, third to short-stop position and short-stop to second base. In the sixth inning, Beltran struck a solo homer (390 feet) towards right-field
to give the Giants a 2-1 lead. Seventh inning again went in favour of Giants as they led off 3-1 when Mark DeRosa reached to short-stop on an infield single and Andres Torres posted a single run.
Beltran said, “It means a lot for me, actually. Thank God for that, being able to play this game for a long time. Three hundred, for a guy from Manati, Puerto Rico, a small town, it's good.”
Giants’ manager, Bruce Bochy said, “He makes this park look small at times. I think it puts you in a really elite class -- 500 is the benchmark for guys who are going in the Hall of Fame, 300 is quite a feat. Few guys have done that.”
Brandon Crawford moved to third base to end the seventh inning. Padres missed some runs during the last two innings and were unable to take a lead. Lincecum permitted just one run, two walks and four hits on his 100 pitches.
As a result, the Giants swept the Padres 3-0 in the three-game series played at AT&T Park.
