Tim Lueckenhoff: No weakness in drug testing for Marcos Maidana-Devon Alexander bout - Boxing news
According to Tim Lueckenhoff, Executive Director Missouri State Office of Athletics, steps are being taken that will ensure that both Marcos Rene Maidana and Devon Alexander undergo the mandatory drug testing procedure before and after the bout to ensure
they are free from any kind of illegal performance enhancing drugs and steroids.
Controversy surrounded the topic when Marcos’ advisor Sebastian Contursi accused Alexander for the intake of illegal drugs in order to enhance his stamina.
Tim while explaining the whole scenario to the media revealed that he actually received a letter from Sebastian that highlighted the fact that Alexander is using performance enhancing drugs. The executive director of the association further informed that
he offered Marcos camp to setup a neutral site in order to test the blood samples so that there is no ambiguity about the accusations and allegations.
Lab Corp is the name of the organization put forth by Tim with the argument that he forfeits himself and his office to take the test and that Golden Boy should hire the testing agency so that they have no complains at the end of the day.
Lueckenhoff reiterated, “If that's the way that you feel, then we're going to take my office out of the equation since Alexander's from St. Louis and I want to make sure that there is no cheating.”
The accusation raged Alexander’s camp and provoked them to say, “Team Maidana is getting cold feet and starting to make false accusations and saying that there is some rumor out there that Devon might be using performance enhancing drugs. Now, the commission
is asking for extra drug testing procedures. As far as we're concerned, we're ready to take whatever tests that they can come up with.”
He further added that unlike the controversy and lack of professionalism shown at the Julio Ceasar Chávez Junior and Marco Rubio bout no such facet will be entertained in his case and both men will give their blood samples before and after the bout no matter
what happens.
Though Sebastian while sharing his view point has said that he did not specifically take the St. Louis born Alexander’s name, still questions have been raised as to what circumstances led Maidana’s advisor to do so. It must be kept in mind that Marcos and
Alexander are entering the ring for a 12-round non-title bout on February 25, 2012.
