Tim Nielsen to coach Australia to 2013 Ashes
All the focus may currently be on the 2010/11 Ashes series between Australia and England, but Australia coach Tim Nielsen can afford to think further ahead after having his contract extended to the end of the 2013 Ashes.
The contract also takes in next year’s World Cup, where Australia will be seeking to be crowned champions for the fourth consecutive occasion.
"In assessing this reappointment, it was important to CA to note the strong support for Tim in his role from players, team management and other cricket leaders in Australia's national talent pathway program," Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland said.
“Tim has been at the helm through a significant and challenging period of transition which has seen a number of once-in-a-generation global champions retire from the Australian team. Working closely with Ricky Ponting, team leadership, national players and team management, he has played an important role leading Australia through that transition,” said Sutherland.
Nielsen succeeded John http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918 had either retired from international cricket or weren’t too far from doing so.
The team Nielsen inherited was, thus, one that was reaching the tail end of a singularly dominant period in international cricket, which had included a world-record 16 consecutive Test match victories and three World Cups.
In that context, Nielsen has overseen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, also in 2009.
"I am excited about the coming phase in Australian cricket,” Nielsen said. "We have players who have come into the group over the last year or so who have found their feet at international level and more young players coming through, it is a great time to be renewing my role".
