Tim Sheens furious at Phil Bentham's negligence shown - Rugby League
Australian coach, Tim Sheens, vented his anger in front of reporters on Saturday, October 29, after his prop, David Shillington, was left neglected, writhing in pain on the field due to Issac Luke’s cannonball tackle which spoiled the taste of their 26-12
win over New Zealand, during the inaugural Four Nations match in Warrington.
The dangerous tackle has left Luke worried, who now fears the worst to come. Luke may not be responsible for tha tackle alone as it took place with the assistance of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Simon Mannering.
Kangaroos were not happy for the negligence shown by the referee of the match, Phil Benthan, who let the hit pass without taking notice of it during the match. This is obviously frustrating for the winning side, as they have lost a crucial asset from their
squad because of the hit.
The prop has been reported but so far no action has taken place, despite this being the second incident of the kind. Earlier on, the prop also attempted a similar tackle on Sam Thaiday in Newcastle, earlier this month.
The coach was amazed how well Bentham had controlled the speed around the ruck and decided to dismiss the occurrence of such intense tackles, which may result in terrible injuries.
While speaking about the incident, Sheen stated, “It is the same trouble we had in Newcastle, it is a Test match we understand that, but I am still trying to work out why we were penalised around the scrum. We'll have to have an MRI on Shillington's knee,
he has collapsed him from behind, the same kid did it in Newcastle, it is a hard tackle to outlaw, but it is a worry in the game."
The victim of the dangerous tackle has had the knee reconstruction twice and is fearing that he will have to undergo a third one. However, the results will be anounced after an MRI of his knee.
Shillington further added that footballers are always very particular about their knee injuries and what made his situation all the more trying is the fact that he had gone through the similar knee procedures earlier.
