Tim Smyczek and Donald Young move to the second round of qualifying draw at the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open.
Tim Smyczek vs. Dudi Sela
American Tim Smyczek, 160th in the world, cast out Dudi Sela of Israel in two straight sets 6-1, 6-4 in the first round of 2011 Sony Ericson Open, Miami, U.S.A. It took just fifty three minutes for the American to reserve his berth
at the second round of qualifying draw in Miami.
The American had a tremendous start to the match in comparison to his contender. Smyczek hit 61 percent of the first serves, winning outstanding 100 percent of the points on them. Whereas, Sela was worse at conversion as he only
managed to convert a meager 33 percent on his first serves.
Smyczek played expertly and broke his contender in the seventh game giving him a breadstick defeat.6-1.
The final set saw the Israeli putting pressure on his contender as he managed to tick the game statistics on even terms. But something that turned out to be the winning edge for Smyczek was his break point opportunities.
Smyczek won 79 percent of his first serves whereas Sela managed to win 73 percent. Smyczek’s saved 100 per cent of his breakpoints enroute to a 6-4 win in the second set.
Smyczek is all set to face Olivier Rochus of Belgium in the second round.
Donald Young vs. Arnaud Clement
American Donald Young overcame Arnaud Clement, a fifteenth seed, of France in straight sets 2-6, 6-3, and 6-2 at the first round of 2011 Sony Ericson Open. American assured his presence in just one hour and forty nine minutes for
the next round.
Young did not have a good start to the match as he lost the opening set 2-6. He served 48 per cent on target and managed to convert 63 per cent points on them. His opponent Clement was confident enough as he served 70 per cent
on target and managed to convert 93 per cent of points on them. However Young managed to save 78 per cent of the breakpoints over his opponent’s 0 per cent.
Being broken by the French in the eighth game, Young suffered a 2-6 defeat in the opening set.
The second set saw the lower ranked showing some defiance to his French opponent landing with 50 per cent of his first serves. The American came over the French as far as conversion of serves into points was concerned. Young served
50 per cent on target and managed to convert 69 per cent points on them, better than his prior percentage. Whereas Clement only managed to hit 64 per cent on target and lagged behind with 57 per cent points. Young was able to clinch a 6-3 win for himself.
Bouncing back in the third set the American once again began to dominate as he hit 4 aces and managed to won 89 per cent of points on his first serves. The French had to surrender once again as he only managed to hit 47 per cent
on target and won a meager 63 per cent on his first serves.
American saved 100 per cent break point opportunities and took the set with 6-2 set score.
Young now moves on ahead to face Canadian Frank Dancevic in the second round of Qualifying draw.
