Tim Southee lauds centurion Ross Taylor – Cricket News Update
New Zealand fast bowler, Tim Southee, on Saturday hailed skipper Ross Taylor for his hard fought ton against West Indies, in the fourth One Day International against West Indies, at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts, on Saturday, July 14, 2012.
Chasing a competitive total of 264 set by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robin-James-Boyd-Moss-c86323 Nicol’s 32-ball 35.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 itinerary last month, and playing his first ODI since October 2011, brilliantly structured his innings. The right-hander started his innings at a slow pace, taking
80 deliveries to reach fifty; however, he accelerated his scoring later, getting his next fifty runs of just 28 balls.
"Ross paced his innings and ended run-a-ball; he's one of those batsmen that can do that," said Southee at the post-match press conference on Saturday night. "No matter how slow a start, he has the ability to catch up, and he played extremely well. It's
just a shame that there wasn't someone else who could http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 with him and make it a lot easier in the end," he added further.
However, with the lack of support from the rest of the line-up and seven of the batsmen falling for scores inside 11, Taylor’s ton was not enough to seal the deal in Kiwis’ way, as they suffered their third defeat in the five-match series, losing the series
to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 and men.
Earlier, the tourists had dismantled the formidable West Indies top order as well, courtesy http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DR-Smith-c1401 (0); however, a fight back led by Kieron Pollard, and well supported by the lower order in the batting
powerplay, steered the hosts to a very competitive total of 264.
Though disappointed by his side’s slip up in the second half of West Indies innings, Southee was happy his side has been able to counter Gayle’s blitz in the last couple of games, in which the Jamaican run machine scored only 27 runs in total.
"The first few games we didn't bowl very well to him [Gayle] at the start and he got in and played some great innings," Southee said. "So it's important how we bowl to him in the first few overs."
The final one-dayer of the series will be played at the same Warner Park venue, on Monday.
