Tim Southee seeks an improbable Kiwis win at Bangalore – Cricket News Update
New Zealand’s fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, underway at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore since August 31.
After being dismissed for 365 in their first innings, having been 328 for 6 overnight, the Black Caps enjoyed a fruitful day in the field on Saturday, as they had India 283 for 5 at stumps, on day two. Southee caused the maximum havoc to the Indian batting line up, accounting for opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Tendulkar-c2556.
Southee and Bracewell struck early to have India struggling at 80 for four in the 24th over, before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737 led the revival, sharing a fifth wicket stand of 99 runs, as the hosts reached 283 for 5 at the close.
The 23-year-old Northland medium pace bowler admitted that the new ball played key role in reducing the home side to 80 for four, even in the batting friendly conditions in Bangalore, and hoped the second new ball would give similar results.
"Obviously, with the new ball, it's nice to bowl and swing it, and we were lucky to pick up a few wickets there,” said Southee while speaking to media reporters at the post-day press conference.
“India came back well after lunch as the ball got a bit older. The wicket is a pretty good wicket. So I guess now it's an important time for us with the second new ball to see if we can pick up the rest of the wickets," he added further.
Besides targeting India’s lower order, Southee is also looking up to his batsmen to put some runs on the board in their second innings.
“If we put some runs on the board and pick up some wickets tomorrow without too much damage then we're right in it,” said the right-arm medium pacer, who returned on Saturday with figures of 15-4-35-3.
The first Test at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 needs to win the ongoing second Test to salvage a series defeat.
