http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 on the Boxing Day last year. The youngsters considers it to
be a great honour for him to be rewarded and hopes to perform well for his national team in future.
There were four nominees for the award including http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558, but the Kiwi bowler got maximum votes from ICC’s 25-man voting panel, which evaluated the performances of the players from 11 August,
2010 to 3 August, 2011.
Southee, who missed the awards ceremony which was held in London last night, steered his side to achieve a marvellous victory after a long losing streak last year, by taking five important wickets for just 18 runs in four overs.
Talking to the media Southee said, “Looking back at the game which has won me the award, it was Boxing Day in a full house at Eden Park and it was a big game for us as we'd been going through a rough patch of losing, something like 12 or 13 games lost on
the trot and it was our first win in a long time.”
He further told, “It was great to be able to contribute to that win and also put in a great performance. Looking at the nominees, it's a great achievement to have even been nominated and to win it is something I will never forget.”
The 22-year-old speedster has been impressive since the last couple of years. He contributed well to his team’s journey to the play-offs of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
The right-hander made his International debut in all three formats of the game against England in 2008. He has played 13 Tests, 51 ODIs and 19 T20Is so far, grabbing 35, 70 and 22 wickets respectively.
Apart from it, he has represented Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament.
