Tim Stauffer sparks as San Diego Padres overpower Florida Marlins 3-1 - MLB Update

San Diego Padres’ starter, Tim Stauffer was tremendous with his pitching as he gave up only one earned run in his seven inning pitches and threw with an ERA of 3.43 in the Padres’ 3-1 victory against the Florida Marlins at Petco Park, San Diego on August
18.
Padres got off to a decent start as they smashed two runs at the bottom of first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Jason Bartlett and Cameron Maybin both scored two collective runs for Padres when Jesus Guzman hit a triple-run shot to deep right-field. Padres continued
to extend their lead as during second inning, the batters scored one run to give them a 3-0 lead.
Logan Forsythe hit a sacrifice fly towards centre-field and Nick Hundley contributed the final run for Padres. Then, the pitchers controlled the middle innings as the batters failed to show their abilities from third to sixth innings of the game. At the
bottom of fourth inning, Hundley flied out, Forsythe grounded out and Kyle Blanks struck-out without taking any run.
On the other side, the Marlins missed some scoring runs in the fifth inning and remained score-less as at short-stop position, Javier Vazquez grounded out, at second base, Emilio Bonifacio popped out and Jose Lopez struck-out to end the fifth inning.
Stauffer permitted five hits, one run, one home-run and one walk in his respective pitched innings. He struck-out five batters on his 95 pitches. Stauffer said, “I was looking forward, after that game, to getting back out on the mound as soon as possible
and knowing that how that game finished wasn't what I knew I was capable of.”
Padres’ manager, Bud Black said, "Last week in Cincinnati, I think there were too many pitches left out over the plate and the Reds didn't miss them. He was a little crisper down and the use of the change up kept those guys off balance.”
During sixth inning, Marlins were again looked powerless as at right-field, Mike Stanton flied out, at left-field Ben Petersen flied out and Greg Dobbs struck-out looking. At last in seventh inning, Marlins were able to score one run and cut their deficit
3-1. John Buck struck a solo homer (447 feet) towards left-centre to keep the Marlins alive.
As a result, Padres went ahead 1-0 in the four-game series played at Petco Park.
