Tim Sylvia expresses disappointment over not being selected for Strikeforce – UFC News
Earlier today Frank Mir was reported to be the first ever fighter to switch from UFC to Strikeforce. Mir will be facing Daniel Cormier on Strikeforce and then both the fighters will go to the UFC.
Somewhere along the lines, former champion Tim Sylvia feels cheated, as he believes he was the one who promised the shot at Cormier.
“So we just assumed that they had talked to both sides, ours and Frank Mir. And when Frank probably agreed to it they just understood that would be a better fight or look better for [Cormier], or even the UFC. I don't know. I'm just really disappointed in
this whole thing, to be honest with you,” Sylvia told MMAjunkie.com regarding the entire scenario.
Sylvia added, “Obviously, they thought about me, and they asked if I'd fight for them. So we hope they keep me in their mind. I'm headed to the gym right now. After my last fight, I only took two weeks off. So I've been back in the gym. My weight is down;
I've been around 290, so if I was to get a notice within two weeks, I could cut the weight right.”
Sylvia is in a state of disappointment and displeasure, not just because of losing the opportunity to go Strikeforce but also because of losing his dear friend and fellow fighter Sherman Pendergarst. As of now, the former champion is making funeral arrangements
for his friend.
When asked about the entire scenario regarding Strikeforce, Sylvia dubbed it as a dramatic moment, saying he was excited one moment to go to Strikeforce and the other moment he felt disappointed for not being there.
Sylvia’s concluding words were that all of this ‘sucks’ but in the long run it will only make him stronger.
Sylvia will now start his regular training routine to stay prepared for any opportunity that might come his way. The former champion wants to fight again. According to him, he loves fighting and he wants to be in the cage once again, fighting his way to
the top against the top-notch fighters of the division.
