Tim Tebow: Nothing more than just Unnecessary Hype
This past National Football League (NFL) season, a lot of sensation and hype has been generated in the media regarding Tim Tebow and his supposedly heroic exploits. All of which come down to nothing, if his performance in the last two games prior to the
end of the season is viewed.
What many of his supporters fail to realise is the simple fact that there are better quarterbacks available out there in the league other than just Tim Tebow.
Recently, the Denver Broncos’ quarterback could not live up to the expectations of his fans but that went unnoticed as the craze around him still continues to plague the NFL.
This is in reference to the games Tebow played against the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs that helped grasp a better understanding of where Tebow really stands and how he continues to keep the hype generated towards him in a positive way.
The defeat at the hands of the weakest team of the American Football Conference (AFC)-West came as a surprise, which can be easily understood if Tebow’s performance in that game is viewed.
The Broncos' hero was guilty of committing four interceptions in that single game and two of them went down for touchdowns, thus helping Bills lead the game by a huge lead of 40-14.
Bills rebounded from seven consecutive losses to hand the Broncos a humiliating defeat.
The man responsible was none other than Tebow.
Tebow completed 13 of 30 passes for 185 yards and gave in four interceptions.
The Bills' quarterback performed considerably better as he went for 196 yards, completing 15 of 27 passes without any interceptions.
Tebow rather than admit his mistakes took to capitalising on the opportunity available in the next game to hide his own failure. He went on to boast that his confidence was fine.
"My confidence is just fine", Tebow said.
"I have to do a better job of not giving them opportunities. I tried to make something happen, and I tried to force it".
Tebow was not the only one with that attitude. Even coach, John Fox, failed to notice Tebow’s declining performance.
Fox called those four interceptions a “couple of misreads". What Fox failed to realise was that these couple of misreads cost them the game.
The Tebow hype kept continuing for apparently no reason other than to satisfy a few individuals who wanted to have a deliberate hero in their midst.
Tebow proved to be the loser once again against Kansas City. The confidence which he claimed was “fine” showed nowhere in the game as the Chiefs edged past the Broncos by 7-3.
More shame came raining on Tebow who was outsmarted by none other than his former colleague, Kyle Orton.
Orton had been the person whom Tebow was unable to beat in practice sessions and proved unbeatable once again that day.
Orton had been dumped by the Broncos to make way for Tebow, who had his revenge that day.
This time, the diplomatic Tebow found yet another reason to save his face.
The San Diego Chargers beat Oakland Raiders, which helped the Broncos clinch the AFC-West title and all of a sudden, all Tebow cared of was the playoffs.
In an attempt to divert attention from his failure, he turned to the future prospects that his team had.
"It's obviously a little bittersweet right now", Tebow said.
"We would have loved to have won that game to have a little momentum going into the playoffs. But I think it's still a special thing what we accomplished, to come back and win the AFC West is very special".
There were no comments on standing up to take his part of the blame by Tebow who fared poorly throughout the game. He completed just 6 of 22 passes for a mere 60 yards while also going for an interception.
Orton, on the other hand, proved to be the better quarterback. He had 15 of 29 passes completed for 180 yards and gave in no interceptions.
Keeping in view the slumped performance of Tebow in these games, it appears that the unnecessary hype created over the quarterback is excessively exaggerated and fails to take notice of key facts regarding his performances.
