Tim Tebow debuts for New York Jets, unable to give striking performance – NFL News
It was the first time that Tim Tebow entered the field wearing a New York Jets jersey as they played against Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday in a preseason game. Yet there was no sensational performance to enlighten such an event.
Tebow had a few runs and gained some yards, but apart from that there was not much to talk about.
Jets lost the game 17-6. The lack of good performance by the offensive team was the main reason behind the loss.
It was nothing new for Jets fans as starting quarterback Mark Sanchez showed similar type of performance like he gave during the last season.
The debutant Tebow came on the field in the second quarter and also played much of the third quarter.
He completed four out of total eight passes and covered 27 yards. After the game, Tebow talked to the media and said:
"I did some things pretty good. Obviously I want that last throw back. I tried to put it low and outside. Just a stupid play by me."
Tebow’s last pass of the game was very poor. He was unable to find the target as rookie linebacker Vontaze Burfict intercepted it with a dive.
Head coach Rex Ryan gave a praising note to Tebow on his first game. Ryan said:
"I liked the poise he showed. Obviously, (he) made some big runs and that's what we say he can do. If you want to come after him, you better get to him. In time, he'll kill you running and that's what he did."
It was quite a tough day for Jets quarterbacks as Bengals’ defence put up intense pressure on them.
Sanchez had a bad time as he was sacked twice during the game. He started the first quarter and completed four out of six passes while covering 21 yards.
Jets’ running game was not very good throughout. Sanchez emphasised on this issue and said:
"The running game will get going and things will open up in the passing game. We're not game-planning for this, so a couple of things caught us off-guard."
