Tim Tebow gains opportunity in Denver Broncos wildcat
Denver Broncos rookie quarterback, Tim Tebow, took eight snaps during the team's 24-20 loss to the New York Jets last week and made a serious contribution to the offence by running six times for 23 yards, including one touchdown.
Although he has yet to throw a pass, Tebow's contribution running the wildcat has turned a few heads in the NFL, and has the 23-year-old feeling confident about finally having the chance to contribute.
"I'm just excited that I get a chance to be on the field," Tebow said. "Whatever they ask, I am going to do the best I can."
"It felt good just to be able to go in there and try to help the team," Tebow said about his performance against the Jets. "I'm just going to do whatever they ask me to do and try to do it with all my heart."
Although Tebow has run the ball, or handed off, every time he's been under center, Broncos head coach, Josh McDaniels, is quick to point out that he's not about to let his wildcat formation become predictable.
"We can't do the same thing with it week after week after week," McDaniels said. "We'll probably continue to tinker with it, including his ability to throw the ball."
The Broncos take on the Oakland Raiders on Sunday October 24, and Raiders head coach Tom Cable is already laying out plans to counteract plays that might involve Tebow.
"I think you have to (prepare for the Tebow packages)," Cable said. "Obviously, he's got a background in it. As he gets more acclimated to the NFL, I'm sure he'll play more."
Don't expect Tebow to steal the starting quarterback spot anytime soon though. Kyle Orton has been impressive so far this season as the Broncos starter, something which has not gone overlooked by his coach.
"The other thing is the rhythm that Kyle's in," McDaniels said. "Sometimes you take that into consideration. I know it's not much different than having him hand the ball off, but in some ways it is different. And Kyle's played pretty doggone well this year,
and I think that's kind of factored into the whole thing as well."
