Tim Tebow set to make his debut with New York Jets in Friday’s preseason game – NFL News
The time has come for the fans to see the first of Tim Tebow on the field in the New York Jets’ jersey. The quarterback will play his first game for Jets on Friday, August 10, 2012.
Jets will face Cincinnati Bengals, the same team against which Tebow made his debut while playing for Denver Broncos in 2010.
It is certain that Tebow will not play as a starter quarterback in the game as head coach Rex Ryan has previously expressed reservations on this aspect.
Jets are working to get themselves comfortable with the new offensive strategies put up by new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano.
Coach Ryan was asked where Tebow would play in Friday’s preseason. He said:
"Wildcat is something that Cincinnati needs to prepare for right now.”
Ryan and company are trying right now to make Tebow adjust to the offensive game-play. Ryan explained that it will depend on what plans Sparano has for Tebow. Ryan said:
"I think we'll see how Tony uses him. Generally, the (second team) gets extended and sometimes they play a half or two quarters, so we'll see if that's in Tony's plan or not.”
Tebow would likely play in the special team as a punt returner. All of the Jets players will get a chance to play one quarter each in their first preseason game.
Meanwhile, Tebow will likely play two quarters. He was very excited about playing as a punt returner for the first time in his career. He said:
"I don't know, I've never done it before. It will be fun. We'll figure how what they're doing and, hopefully, have something good ready for them."
He might be the first backup quarterback to get so intense coverage even in a preseason game. Yet, Tebow is not distracted by any of such things and completely focused on giving his best for the team. Tebow said:
"Friday night isn't the destination. It's just another step in our journey to get better, so when we play Buffalo (Sept. 9), we're ready to go."
Tebow will definitely have to prove his point in order to have any chance of getting good playing time throughout the season.
