Tim Tebow will get his second start on Sunday
Tim Tebow has trouble with even the easiest of jobs that a quarterback must perform; taking the snap from under center. Well, he has come out of a prodigious college career where he specialized in the shotgun formation, so it seems normal.
He is also clumsy and inexperienced, so why would the Denver Broncos want him to start as quarterback in their game against the San Diego Chargers? Well, his passion for the game and perseverance is just incredible. Deion Sanders, commentator for the NFL,
said,
"Forget his delivery and his arm action and his accuracy, he gets the job done."
This praise came after Tebow won his first professional game on Sunday against the Houston Texans. They were down by 13 points in the fourth quarter and came back to win, 24-23, with Tebow himself running six yards for the final touchdown in the last three
minutes of the game. However, there wasn’t really any point in winning the game. The Broncos basically gave up their top draft picks to the Carolina Panthers with the win. Not that it matters much anyways. If Tebow keeps getting better and better as he is
right now, Denver won’t need a top draft pick to do well in 2011.
Interim head coach for the Broncos, Eric Studesville said that Tebow is his pick for starting quarterback next week against the Chargers. This means that the rookie will be well on board for off-season training. Although Studesville expressed that he wishes
for a more experienced quarterback, the head office assure Tebow that he is part of the team’s future, after firing former head coach, Josh McDaniels. On the other hand, Kyle Orton is pretty upset. Even though he did sign an extension contract for 2011 that
is worth $8.8 million, Orton still isn’t sure if he will be a Bronco next year. He lost his position as starting quarterback two weeks ago after some bruised ribs and two poor games.
Tebow was praised for his determination by teammates, as well as opponents, after leading the Broncos to score on all four of their possessions in the second half. After being down 17-0 at halftime, Tebow led Denver to score three touchdowns and a field
goal. Texans coach Gary Kubiak said,
"He is exactly what you thought coming out of college. He is a winner. He will find a way to make a play. He will find a way to move the chains. He found a way to win a game today and that is what this league is about."
Receiver Jabar Gaffney articulated,
"I love his will to win. As long as he has that, we've got a chance. Everything else we can work on. He definitely brings a lot of emotion to every play."
Deep threat Brandon Lloyd said,
"He really gives us added incentive to do great things for him, because we know he's willing to do anything humanly possibly to make the most of out every play."
After losing to Oakland and throwing only 138 yards, Tebow came back in a big way, throwing for 308 passing yards in his next game. Studesville articulated on Monday,
"There definitely was progress. He got much better. He made plays and he scrambled and did some things. He threw the ball well, got the ball down the field, and he continues to keep developing. And that's what it is: the more he plays, the better he'll get."
However, some of his throws put some receivers in danger of taking big hits from defenders. Studesville further commented,
“Everything wasn't perfect, it wasn't perfect. But he'll get up there and he'll look at the tape and he'll get better from those things and we'll get better (production) from him and the more he's in there.”
Hopefully, everything will be close to perfect next week against the Chargers. The Broncos will be playing at Invesco Field at Mile High on Sunday 2nd January at 4:15 PM ET.
Stay tuned!
