Tim Thelen takes another Seniors Tour’s victory, wins Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open
Tim Thelen continued his great form on the European Seniors Tour to record his second straight victory in seven days, when he outshined his opponents at the Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open, on Sunday, July 8, 2012.
Thelen carded a three-under par 67 in the final round and a 12-under par tournament score that allowed him to secure a two-stroke victory over Mark James. Ian Woosnam was further a stroke back to take the third spot on the leaderboard.
"I could get used to this feeling," Thelen said. "This is pretty amazing to win a second event in seven days. I played great again this week and to come out on top against another two of the game's great players in Mark James and Ian Woosnam is very satisfying".
Thelen, the winner of last week’s Berenberg Bank Masters, got off to a confident start and carded four birdies against a bogey on the front nine of the course to take the charge early during the day.
However, he stumbled on the 10th and 12th hole to suffer bogeys. In the meantime, James caught him up with birdies on the 15th, 16th and 18th.
Yet, Thelen did not lose hope and continued displaying a good game on the course. He birdied the 15th and 17th hole to take the trophy home.
"I looked at the leaderboard on the 16h and saw I had a two shot lead," said Thelen. "Then Mark birdied the last to cut the lead to one, so that seven iron on 17 really was a fabulous shot. Making that birdie putt was a big moment too because it gave me
a cushion to play the last".
At the end of the event, many of his Senior Tour fellow members congratulated him for his brilliant performance on the course.
Among them, Gary Player and Bob Charles were the two real legends who accompanied him at the presentation ceremony.
Charles carded 66 in the opening round of the tournament to record the history of a score 10 less than his age. He recently turned 76, and is among the most senior players on the tour.
