Tim Thomas not on the market affirm Boston Bruins, killing rumours -NHL Update
The media has been surrounding the Boston Bruins’ veteran goalie, Tim Thomas, nowadays due to the hype he created by not attending the White House ceremony in which the Stanley Cup winning team had a night with President Barack Obama.
That entire stir certainly did create rumours about whether the Bruins were opting to trade him out, which also had a number of teams stand straight up at the golden opportunity of grabbing the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs Most Valuable Player
(MVP).
Unfortunately for those teams that were readying to take out their cheque books, the Boston Bruins played down the entire idea of trading the player by confirming it on Monday, January 30, 2012, that they had no intentions of doing something of that nature.
"Not trading him," Bruins' general manager, Peter Chiarelli, said in an email to ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun. "I have not talked to anyone and I don't plan to."
The rumours spread amongst the North American league as many viewed his statement against the White House of them being “out of control”, not going down well with his management along with a number of teammates, bringing him under intense crossfire.
When asked about what his thoughts about the Tim Thomas issue were, Boston Bruins’ owner Jeremy Jacobs, affirmed in stating that he has his own views and backed the first amendment, which gives every citizen the freedom of speech and thought.
"Tim is a great hockey player," Jacobs said. "He's done his job very well for us, and I'm totally behind him. I don't necessarily agree with his political views, but that's not what he does for me. And I've got to say this: While I don't agree with it, I
certainly feel he has the right to express himself as every American does, and he does a good job."
When players were approached with the same question, they replied by saying that they might not agree with his political views, but that is not something that would affect their relationship on the ice.
What Thomas might be thinking is not clear at the moment, but one thing is for sure and that is Boston does not have any plans on letting one of the league’s most valuable players go anytime soon.
