Tim Wood, Eric Fryer get Minor League deals from Minnesota Twins - MLB News
The Minnesota Twins have signed relief pitcher Tim Wood and catcher Eric Fryer for Minor League including an invite to team’s Spring Training in Fort Meyers, Florida. Both players were previously a part of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The 27-year-old catcher, who was originally drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2007, played in six games for the Pirates in 2012. Representing the Triple-A Indianapolis in 65 games this year, he posted unimpressive figures. His batting average was .204,
with 10 RBI’s and had an on-base percentage of .257. Fryer did not hit a home-run in the 2012 season.
The right-handed catcher from Columbus, Ohio played High School ball for Reynoldsburg High School and later played college baseball at Ohio State. Eric has played for several Minor League teams in various franchises.
His career numbers in Minor League are quite decent. He has a batting average of .273 and an on-base percentage of .361. He has played 16 games for the Pirates in 2011 and 2012 combined and has posted a batting average of .267 and an on-base percentage of
.353 in 30 at-bats. Fryer has played as a catcher in eight games and had a .979 fielding percentage with a single error in 28 total chances.
Tim Wood was honoured as the best reliever in the International League Baseball America for the second consecutive year. He posted a 2.19 ERA in 54 appearances in 2012 for the Triple-A Indianapolis. The 29-year-old made 21 saves in the season.
Tim was drafted by the Florida Marlins in 2002 in the 44th round of the draft out of Prima Community College. He has a pretty decent slider that locks up in the early 90’s and a fastball ranging between 94 and 98 mph.
The pitcher from Tucson, Arizona has so far made 57 appearances in the Major League. He has 4.50 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP. He has played in the Major League in 2011, representing Pittsburgh Pirates. In 13 games that Tim played in, he only pitched in eight innings
and posted a 5.63 ERA.
The two can be useful additions for Minnesota in the long run. Tim Wood is on song and should prove to be a valuable addition to the Minor League for the Twins. He can turn into a serious Major League Baseball contender in some time with the organisation.
Some baseball quarters have suggested that the Twins will be looking to add good pitchers to the line-up and Tim can certainly be one of those. Eric has had a bit of a struggle in 2012 but his previous performances suggest that he has the ability of getting
out of poor form and transform into a great catcher and a more the useful hitter.
