If time is not real that means space and distance aren't either?

  1. Space and time are not the same thing, but they are both aspects of space-time - the fabric of the Universe. Distance is the separation between of any 2 points in space-time.

Space-time is definitely real, although some say there are imaginary dimensions to it as well as the numerous theoretical dimensions to it. Mind-boggling, but hopefully the theoretical physicists understand what they are talking about?

  2. Time and space are interwoven and one cannot exist without the other. Without time, there is no space. Without space, there is no time.

The distance between 2 objects depends on the relative motion of the observer measuring the distance. If you and I were traveling near light speed relative to each other and to the objects, we would each measure a different distance subject to our velocities.

We would also measure events occurring at different times. You might say events A and B occurred at the same time, while I would say the same two events occurred at different times.

There is no universally accepted definition of time or of space, other than time is what keeps everything from happening all at once, and space is what keeps everything from happening in the same place. Otherwise, we don't have a clue as to the true reality of space and time, and therefore our existence.

  3. What a question!

Time is real. So real that we can measure it. But it´s relative to the observer.

Space and distance can sometimes be the same thing, but we can measure space in at least three dimensions, and distance in one. They all are part of the Universe, the one we know and live in. In the begining there was nothing, then the Big Ban ocurred and the Universe was created, formed by time, space and many other elements creating matter. And so on.

    Grettings.

  4. Time is the measurement of change.  If nothing ever changed or moved, there would be no way to have a concept of time.  Since things do move, and change, time is real.

Space...  we have three "spatial dimensions."  1. You can move foreword or backward.  2.  You can move left or right.  3.  You can move up or down.  All of these movements are being made within space, and it also takes time for them to happen.  Thus, space and time are real.

Distance is a measurement of how much "space" is between one thing and another.  Since not everything is confined to one precise and infinitely small location, distance must exist.

Also, seeing how I live in Minnesota, we also measure local distances with drive times.  Mankato is 90 minutes away from Minneapolis...  nobody around here knows the mileage, just how long it takes to get there by car.  (Yeah, we're an interesting folk!)

  5. Time and space are linked by the passage of light. When you look outward in space, you see back in time, because of the duration that the light took to reach your eyes. The nearest galaxy is 2.3 million light years away. We see the light that left there 2.3 million years ago, so we are really looking back in time by looking out in space. Even when you look at objects across the room, you are seeing them as they actually existed a tiny fraction of a second in your past, since it took light a tiny fraction of a second to reach your eyes from the object.

Distance is just a measure of space, so it is essentially the same thing as space - it's just a way to measure it.

Time is certainly real, and so is space. They are not absolute, they are relative - this means that the measurements that are actually made of time and space depend on where we are standing when we measure them. We will get a diferent answer for the duration of a certain event depending on whether we are standing still or moving compared to the event. We will get a different answer for the length of a certain object depending on whether we are standing still or moving relative to that object. This is relativity theory, which I will not describe in detail. Suffice it to say that time and space are real, inextricably connected, and their measurement depends on your motion.
