  1. Ethanol is not a good choice for "clean energy".  It was selected for federal subsidies primarily to win votes from corn farmers in certain midwestern states.  It really has no future as a source of fuel.  In my view, investing in it is simply diverting resources from real alternatives, which is probably what the oil companies want as well.

  2. Pretty accurate article. The Biodiesel, Ethonal has been a hot topic for years. Ethonal is not energy saving it is energy wasting. it takes more energy to produce a gallon of Ethanol than it gives out in return.

Yes I believe all sorts of evil will befall us if Hillary is elected.

She is anti everything American and she is all for a new world order.

  3. Just remember the main theme, "All government programs have the complete opposite effect of the stated intent."

No sane person wants to destroy the world. That would be stupid. However, the libs do want to expand government and suppress our freedoms (the less freedom we have, the more power they have). They have found that AGW is a perfect excuse to promote higher taxes and wealth distribution. Also, many in the AGW crowd truely hate America and capitalism (again, the socialist). They try to promote anti-western, anti-capitalist solutions to a made up issue (AGW). In their agenda, they want to slow the economy and control the free population.

The left also has zero idea of market forces and supply/demand forces (remember, they like socialism). To produce biofuels, we must divert some of our food crop to create this expensive "solution". This drives up food prices, and has caused riots in the poorer areas. It also drives up gas prices since ethanol is an expensive alternative to gas.

  4. The only politician mentioned by name is Bush, and last time I checked his administration is still in power.  Is Bush now a "Lib"?

Here's a clue to Bush's role in the sharp rise in ethanol production:

Ethanol Industry Gets a Boost From Bush

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con...

"At the State of the Union address Tuesday night, Don Endres relished the strange applause rituals, the pomp and ceremony, and even the dinner in the Capitol beforehand at which he rubbed elbows with leading lawmakers.

But most of all, Endres, the chief executive of the nation's second-largest ethanol maker, relished President Bush's message: that the government should sharply raise the mandate for ethanol use in motor fuels, setting a floor for alternative and renewable fuel use in 2017 that is equal to seven times the current ethanol output."

John McCain called for the end of ethanol subsidizies way back in 2000 during Republican debates:

McCain, Bush clash over ethanol during first debate in Iowa

    http://www.drake.edu/journalism/CyberCau...

"I'm here to tell you that I'm going to tell you the things that you don't want to hear, as well as the things you want to hear, and one of those is ethanol," McCain said. "Ethanol is not worth it. It does not help the consumer."

"Those ethanol subsidies should be phased out, and everybody here on this stage, if it wasn't for the fact that Iowa is the first caucus state, would share my view that we don't need ethanol subsidies. It doesn't help anybody," McCain said.

The myth that ethanol is clean energy has been promoted by Bush, and not only do I not believe it, I think he should have been impeached for treason long ago for his attacks on the Bill of Rights, undermining our 3 branch system of government, and for allowing Rumsfeld to commit war crimes.

I agree that the article you referred us to is creepy though.  Biofuels are doing a tremendous amount of damage:

    http://www.time.com/time/magazine/articl...

Brazil just announced that deforestation is on track to double this year; Carter, a Texas cowboy with all the subtlety of a chainsaw, says it's going to get worse fast. "It gives me goose bumps," says Carter, who founded a nonprofit to promote sustainable ranching on the Amazon frontier. "It's like witnessing a rape."

  5. Actually I don't see one word in the article about "Libs" or Hillary. This has been going on for almost a decade now.  It's my understanding that is is the Republicans who have been in charge.  Maybe you know something the rest of us don't know.

This is a tragedy.  I just posted something about it a few minutes ago in a question about deforestation.  Jane Goodall has been a very vocal spokesperson for those leading the outcry against it.  The facts are simple.  The Bush Administration has been providing aid and subsidy to countries in the process of industrializing to help them develop biofuels.   The technology has been carefully selected to include only those processes that have been tested here and demonstrated not to work.  The governments probably know, but want the money, so the forests are being cut down.

It is very similar to what is going on within the country with alternative fuels, electric cars, and hybrid cars.  There is not a single piece of technology reaching the marketplace in America that hasn't already been proven worthless, or many decades from practicality.  All the development that did show promise was killed without discussion in 2000.  Europe and Japan in contrast have a variety of excellent products available to their consumers, many with 5-10 year track records.  If you buy a GM Volt, or any of the other expensive garbage the car companies, oil industry and this Administration have been trying to feed Americans, you're wasting your money.

  6. Libs huh?  Funny, Time magazine doesn't say anything about libs.  And for good reason.

"President George W Bush unleashed the new popularity of ethanol when he set a goal to lower US dependence on foreign oil. The price of corn has shot up to nearly double 2005 levels in response to the increased demand.

It's no wonder that ethanol refineries are springing up like mushrooms, particularly in mid-western US corn belt states. As of May there were 120 corn refineries countrywide and 75 more were under construction.

The White House's fuel dreams are ambitious. In his State of the Union address in January, Bush set a goal of reducing petrol consumption in the car-loving country by 20 per cent in the next 10 years, largely by turning to ethanol and other alternative fuels."

  7. This appears to be a politics only question.

  8. bio fuels are a ecological disaster they are a political tool and nothing more.coal and oil is still used in there manufacture and it has caused damage to waterways and the clearing of rainforest. the main lobby group that is pushing it is the farming lobby so how did you pin this on liberals.
