  1. Hi JJ!

In our spring and summer, Eastern Daylight Time in North America is four hours behind GMT.  Right now, when it's 8 p.m. GMT, it is 4:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time in New York.

    A few notes:

    - in North America, we turn back the clocks from Daylight Saving Time on November 2 in 2008.  Starting in November, 8 p.m. GMT equals 3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

    - GMT is not the same as British Summer Time.  When it's 8 p.m. GMT, the clocks in England show 9 p.m. British Summer Time.  If the time you seek to convert is in GMT, for example associated with tomorrow's Olympics, there's four hours time difference with Eastern Daylight Time.  If you're chatting with a friend in England, 8 p.m. GMT equals 9 p.m. British Summer Time = 4 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

    - GMT, by definition, is not affected by Daylight Saving Time.  Except for the occasional insertion of a leap-second, it never changes.  8 p.m. GMT = 4 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, regardless of when Europeans turn their clocks back.

  2. 5 pm

  3. whats GMT anyway?

  4. For the seer fact of you doing this simple task by yourself I'll tell you to Google, it's on there, just look up time zone converter of something.

  5. 10

  6. + 5 hours.... 1 am EST.

  7. We're 5 hours behind GMT.  So your answer is 3pm.

But N. America and Europe go on and off of daylight savings time on different days, so it might get a little screwey around those times of year.
