Time for Detroit Tigers to say goodbye to Brandon Inge – MLB Update
Brandon Inge was one of the key members of Detroit Tigers batting lineup. Since joining the club back in 2001, the striker has given some impressive performances. Inge displayed some high quality offensive and defensive skills past season to help the Tigers win the American League Central Division title but things did not work out for him this season as he managed just .100 average in 20 at bats.
His home run hitting ability also seemed to be ineffective as he failed to hit a single home run since the start of 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
According to a leading sports website, Tigers’ General Manager Dave Dombrowski requested Inge to come and see him in his office on Thursday. Inge knew straight away that the time had come. Dombrowski officially released him from his duties and now the former Tigers’ third baseman will have to look for a new job to revive his dying career.
Baseball is a strange business. When a player is at his peak, it appears as if the entire world is at his feet but the same player struggles to keep his place in the team at the twilight of his career.
"I think the big issue is that we had a logjam at second base," Jim Leyland said. "And we're struggling offensively. Santiago one day, Raburn another, and Inge another was not fair to any of them."
"We talked a long time about it, and this is what we came up with. It's not my happiest day, obviously, but you have to make tough decisions."
Inge shared a great relationship with Tigers’ supporters. Some fans loved his attitude and the other hated him for his involvement in controversies. Earlier this year, when Inge was asked to move to second base to accommodate Miguel Cabrera at third base, he was not happy about his situation.
He started the season poorly and he was placed at the disabled list. Even then, he had several opportunities to redeem himself but unfortunately for him, he failed to impress the skipper. It is all over now for Inge but he says his heart will be in Detroit forever.
