Time for European LPGA stars to toughen up
As the current LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) season is moving into its final phase, it has become crucial for European contenders to toughen up before they come face-to-face
against their battle-hardened Asian rivals in Malaysia next month.
With the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 slated to be staged from October 11-14, at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, players are rolling up their sleeves in order to do what they have sworn:
win for themselves and their countries.
On the back of plenty of crowd support in Malaysia, Asian contenders appear to be in a stronger position than most of their European and American counterparts, but snatching a title will be
an uphill task as the roster is expected to feature a fearsome line-up.
Key European contenders who have what it takes to win in Malaysia include Suzann Pettersen of Norway, Spanish Azahara Munoz, Anna Nordqvist, German Sandra Gal, Caroline Hedwall and Beatriz
Recari of Spain.
On top of the list is Suzann Pettersen, who currently ranks 8th in the Women’s World Golf Rankings. Pettersen has not been able to end her winning drought since her last victory
at the Safeway Classic 2011, but she appears determined to get back on track this season and will likely live up to the expectations of her fans.
Beatriz Recari can also prove to be a tough contender at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 as she knows how to tackle a roster full of formidable players.
Recari might have won only one LPGA tournament in her professional career so far, her work ethic and solid putting skills are going to help her do something amazing this time.
Despite her ambitions to become one of the most successful LPGA stars, the Spanish golfer has been embroiled in injury issues in the past, which took a serious toll on her performance.
For instance, the 2009 season went bad for the 25-year-old as she had to stay off the course for some time.
“I was improving. I had an injury early in the season, ever since Australia in fact, and that stayed with me for a while. It meant I had to pull out of the Spanish Open. But it was only the
details that were lacking. I was positive about my form,” Recari had expressed her regret during one of her interviews in late 2009.
